The Basic Concepts of Transference in Analytical Psychology

Abstract

|
Purpose: Analytical Psychology is a representative field of depth psychology that illuminates the inner world of the human psyche and an important research area useful in practical psychotherapy. However, in reality, the concepts of transference, considered important in psychotherapy, are misunderstood as difficult and vague in Analytical Psychology. To understand the meaning of transference in Analytical Psychology, the investigating review of its basic concepts through C. G. Jung¡¯s early writings is necessary.
Materials and Methods: Using Jung¡¯s early writings, the basic concepts of transference were organized. The basis of the concepts of transference was investigated, and its meaning was reviewed.
Results: Jung¡¯s concepts of transference had specific features from the early period, and they should be understood in terms of the individuation process.
Conclusion: The characteristics of the concepts of transference in Analytical Psychology are already present in Jung¡¯s early writings. The concepts of transference should be understood as some aspects of the individuation process, and they should be applied to the practice of psychotherapy.
